The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Energy Initiative records document the interdisciplinary life of the program through publications and promotional materials created by the initiative. The collection spans the years 2003-2015 and includes reports, pamphlets, booklets, promotional materials, posters and magazines. The reports focus on the role of and challenges faced by academia and the government in development and application of different forms of energy, including coal, electric, solar and nuclear in the United States and around the world. They also show MIT’s links to and cooperation with the private sector and other universities. Also found are promotional materials, including student profiles of Energy UROP (Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program) and the Energy Futures magazine published biannually.

Ernest Moniz was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, in 1944. He graduated from Boston College with a degree in physics in 1966 and then received his PhD in theoretical physics from Stanford University in 1972. The following year, he joined the faculty of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). At MIT, Moniz became the Cecil and Ida Green Professor of Physics and Engineering Systems.
